The new update is finally here and the best Minecraft 1.20 servers are buzzing with excitement. It's time to prepare yourself to encounter unique mobs, explore biomes and discover countless new blocks. Though, with so much to delve into, it's natural to feel overwhelmed by the vastness of the Trails & Tales update. But, fear not! We are here to simplify your journey and equip you with a complete list of features of the Minecraft 1.20 update. So, without further ado, let's dive right in!

List of Features in Minecraft 1.20 Trails & Tales

To make the update easier to understand, we have divided its features into several sections. You can explore each of them separately to find out everything you need to know.

Archaeology Features of Minecraft 1.20

The archaeology system consists of the largest set of features in Minecraft 1.20. It brings special blocks, a hidden structure, and a whole new method for resource collection to the game.

Suspicious Blocks

The newly introduced sand and gravel blocks, known as "suspicious blocks," have items hidden within them. These blocks closely resemble their regular counterparts, making it challenging to distinguish them at first glance. However, if you are able to tell them apart, these suspicious blocks can offer a lot of exciting loot.

Uncovering them can grant you valuable loot including minerals, smithing templates, crafting ingredients, and much more. The loot you receive depends on the structure where the blocks spawn. You can find the suspicious blocks in:

  • Trail Ruins
  • Desert Temple
  • Desert Wells
  • Warm Ocean Ruins
  • Cold Ocean Ruins

Brush

To uncover the treasures hidden within the new suspicious blocks, you'll need a special tool called the brush. It allows you to slowly remove the dust from sand and gravel blocks to reveal the loot that's inside them.

Crafting a brush in Minecraft involves the combination of a stick, a feather, and a copper ingot. Unlike other tools, there are no variants of it, but the brush still has limited durability and supports various enchantments.

Decorated Pots

One of the first items you might find when uncovering a suspicious block in the game is a pottery sherd. These new crafting ingredients help you express yourself by making uniquely decorated pots. Currently, there are 20 pottery sherds in Minecraft, each representing something unique from the game.

Unfortunately, the decorated pots made with these sherds serve no practical purpose. You can't even place plants in them, unlike flower pots. However, they are still a worthy investment for your base and the best part is that you can also use mud bricks to craft them.

Trail Ruins

Trail Ruins are at the heart of the suspicious blocks, the sense of mystery, and the new archaeology features in Minecraft 1.20. It is a massive structure that spawns buried in the overworld with only its tip peaking from the ground. This makes it quite challenging to find Trail Ruins in Minecraft without a proper plan.

However, you can rely on the best trail ruins seeds to make the search much easier. And when you find this structure, it offers you a bunch of uncommon blocks and items. The list includes building blocks, tools, new items, sherds, and even functional blocks alongside other stuff.

Customization Features of Minecraft 1.20

Even since the first announcement of Minecraft 1.20 features, developers have heavily focused on making the game more customizable. This aligns seamlessly with the introduction of decorated pots. But, when it comes to self-expression, they aren't the only option you have.

Armor Trims

Armor trims are a type of smithing template in Minecraft 1.20 that add unique patterns to the pieces of your armor. You can rely upon the trims to make your armor look exactly the way you want them to be. Currently, there are 16 unique trims that spawn in most in-game structures including End City, Nether Fortress, and more.

Meanwhile, when it comes to texturing them, the trims support 10 color options, one for each mineral in the game. By combining these color variations with the palette of leather armor options, you can create thousands of unique gear combinations.

Custom Shields

The ability to add banners onto shields to customize them has been a part of the Java edition for years. But thanks to Minecraft 1.20, this feature is now also available on the Bedrock edition. All you have to do is create a custom banner and combine it with a shield on the crafting table.

Netherite Nerf in Minecraft 1.20

While all the features of the Minecraft 1.20 update are worth celebrating, one of them is going to make your life challenging. In order to heighten the excitement of obtaining Netherite, players now require a smithing upgrade template to use Netherite ingots.

These templates only spawn in the chests of the Bastion Remnant's treasure rooms. So, you have to take a longer trip to the Nether than usual to obtain the strongest gear in the game. However, there is a silver lining: the discovered templates can be used to craft additional templates. This ensures that even though getting Netherite gear would be harder, it won't take too long.

New Biome in Minecraft 1.20: Cherry Grove

Keeping up with the players' demand, Minecraft 1.20 is introducing a new biome inspired by the phenomenon of cherry blossom. You get a complete pink biome including cherry trees, pink petals, and even pink particles.

It is the perfect place to create your base and enjoy some quality downtime within the game. Plus, we have already pinned down all the best cherry grove seeds for Minecraft for you to enjoy. All that's left to do is jump into the game and explore the pink biome.

New Mobs of Minecraft 1.20

With Minecraft 1.20 update, we are getting two new mobs in the game along with a major upgrade for an existing mob.

Sniffer

Sniffer is an ancient Minecraft mob that doesn't spawn naturally in the game. Instead, you have to find Sniffer eggs in the suspicious blocks and let them hatch into a Snifflet. Once that Sniffelet grows into an adult it sniffs around blocks and pulls out seeds for ancient plants.

At the moment, the Sniffer can only dig out the following:

  • Torchflower seeds
  • Pitcher pod

Camels

The second mob that's a part of Minecraft 1.20 features is the majestic camel. These mobs spawn exclusively in the middle of desert villages and are fond of eating cactus. It's important to note that each village will only have one camel, and once it's gone, it cannot respawn. So, you should learn how to breed camels in Minecraft before taking them on risky adventures.

Talking about adventures, camels hold the potential to replace horses and probably even the Elytra in overworld journeys. It stands out as the only mob in Minecraft that can accommodate two players simultaneously as riders. Additionally, due to its height, riders atop a camel are untouchable from common hostile mobs like zombies and husks.

Piglin Head

Expanding the exciting itinerary of Minecraft, this new update adds Piglin mob heads to the list of items you can obtain. To get one, simply have a charged creeper eliminate a Piglin, and it will drop the head as loot. You can pick up the head, wear it and even place it on other blocks.

Additionally, existing mob heads in Minecraft 1.20 now have a cool feature. If you place a mob head on top of a notebook and activate it, it will make sounds that match the mob. This opens up exciting possibilities for map creators to add immersive audio experiences to their custom maps.

Two New Wood Types

In Minecraft 1.20 update, the quantity of wood types in the game increases to 11, thanks to these new additions:

  • Cherry Wood: Pink and maroon in color, the cherry wood spawns as a part of cherry trees in the new Chery Grove biome.
  • Bamboo Wood: Expanding the functionality of bamboo, you can use pieces of bamboo to create bamboo wood blocks. It doesn't spawn naturally and features a bunch of exclusive "mosiac" blocks.

New Functional Blocks and Items of Minecraft 1.20

There are two new Redstone blocks in Minecraft 1.20 update:

  • Calibrated Sculk Sensor: A variant of Sculk sensor that can be calibrated to send Redstone signals only after detecting certain activities in the game.
  • Chiseled Bookshelf: A new storage item that allows you to keep books, enchanted books, and books & quills on it. It even sends unique Redstone signals when you interact with certain slots on it.
  • Relic Music Disc: The sixteenth music disc in Minecraft which plays mysterious sounds. It only spawns in suspicious gravel blocks of Trial Ruins.
  • Raft: An open version of boats in Minecraft that can be crafted with the help of bamboo wood.

New Commands in Minecraft 1.20

You can expand the functionality of your world in Minecraft 1.20 with the following new commands:

  • Return: Controls how functions are executed and modify their return values
  • Fillbiome: Replaces the biomes of any specific area in Minecraft
  • Ride: Allows you to make any mob ride any other mob in the game

Bedrock Minecraft World Editor

A remarkable addition to only Minecraft 1.20 Bedrock edition is a new editor mode. This built-in editor empowers you to fully customize your world according to your creative vision. Functionality-wise, it is similar to using an image editing program but in a 3D space.

This innovative feature is set to revolutionize how map makers create content for the game. However, it's important to note that the editor is currently in its testing phase and we might not see its final form until the Minecraft 1.21 update.
