Where Do Decorated Pots Spawn

You can find a bunch of decorated pots spawning inside the Trial Chambers in Minecraft. There, you can break the pots to get amazing loot ranging from iron ingots to the rare Trial Key. Use our guide to learn how to find Trial Chambers in Minecraft and try your luck.

Items Required to Make Decorated Pots

You can make a decorated pot using the following items:

  • Brick
  • Pottery Sherd
  • Crafting Table

Irrespective of which type of pottery sherd you choose, you need a total of four sherds to make decorated pots in Minecraft. Furthermore, all the sherds don’t have to be of the same type for the recipe to work.

How to Make a Brick in Minecraft

Follow these simple steps to make a brick in Minecraft:

1. First, make a furnace in Minecraft by combining 8 cobblestone blocks.

2. Then, search for clay blocks that spawn on the floor of oceans, rivers, and lakes in Minecraft. They have a higher spawn rate within the water bodies within lush caves.

3. Once you find clay blocks, break them to get clay balls.

4. Finally, smelt the clay balls in a furnace to turn them into bricks. Each clay ball results in one brick. If you face any trouble, make sure to check our dedicated guide on how to make bricks in Minecraft.

There are 23 pottery sherds in Minecraft, each with a unique symbol. They spawn hidden within the following structures:

  • Trial Chambers

  • Desert Temple
  • Desert Well
  • Trail Ruins
  • Warm Ocean Ruins

You can use our guide on how to get pottery sherds in Minecraft to discover what design you can get from each location.

How to Get a Pottery Sherd

You need to get 4 pottery sherds to make a decorated pot in Minecraft. Follow these steps to learn how to collect them:

1. First, use our above-mentioned list and find a structure where the Pottery Sherd spawns. In this guide, we are going to find Trail Ruins in Minecraft.

2. Then, make a brush in Minecraft by combining a copper ingot with a feather and a stick.

3. Next, find a suspicious sand or suspicious gravel block inside your structure.

4. Finally, right-click and use the brush on the suspicious block to uncover Pottery Sherd. Every suspicious block doesn't contain a sherd so you might have to explore a few structures before finding one.

Crafting Recipe of Decorated Pots in Minecraft

Once you have enough pottery sherds or bricks, it's time to craft your decorated pot in Minecraft. Here's how:

1. To begin, open your crafting table by right-clicking or using the secondary action key on it.

2. Then, place one sherd in the middle cell of the top and bottom row of the crafting grid.

3. Next, place one sherd in the left and right cell of the middle row. Make sure to leave the middle cell and the corners empty. With that, your decorated pot is ready.

4. You can replace any pottery sherd, in this recipe, with a brick too. Doing so only changes the design of your decorated pot.

5. When you use a pottery sherd, the resulting pot features the sherd's symbol on its face. If you use a brick, the pot's face is entirely blank. The placement of the sherd in the crafting grid corresponds to the design on the decorated pot's face.

What Does a Decorated Pot Do in Minecraft?

The decorated pots are a reliable option to decorate your base in Minecraft. They allow you to add a personal touch to your builds, following the footsteps of hanging signs. But, these pots also have the ability to store items.

Follow these easy steps to place your items inside a decorated pot

1. Place down a decorated pot on the side or top of another block.

2. Then, stand next to the decorated pot while holding the item you wish to store.

3. Use the item on the pot to place it inside it. If you have multiple copies of an item, you have to put each item individually inside the pot.

Every decorated pot can hold one stack of an item. In terms of quantity, you can break down the one-stack storage into:

  • 64 Items: food, building blocks, and common items
  • 16 Items: useable items like Ender Eye, snowballs, buckets, and more
  • 1 Item: any item with durability except clocks and compasses, filled buckets, and potions

Furthermore, unlike a bundle, you can only place one item inside a decorated pot in Minecraft. It will not accept new items if it already contains a different type of item.

How To Get Items Back from Decorated Pots

If you want to get your items back from a decorated pot, you just need to break it. When you do so, all the items stored within it will be dropped. But, what happens to the pot itself depends upon the item you use to break it. Here are a few scenarios:

  • Tool or weapon: If you use any tool or weapon, like a sword, to break the pot, it drops bricks or pottery sherds.
  • Silk Touch: When you break a decorated pot with Silk Touch, it ends up dropping as a pot. But, the items there were inside the pot still end up dropping separating.
  • Hand: Breaking the decorated pot with your bare hand will also make the pot drop as an item.
  • Piston: If you use a piston to push the decorated pot, it will drop as an item.
  • Explosion: In the case of an explosion, such as from TNT, the decorated pot will drop as an item.

Arrows

Another interesting way to break a decorated pot in Minecraft is using arrows. You can shoot arrows on a decorated pot with a bow or a crossbow to break it. This opens up tons of new Redstone mechanics and party games within Minecraft.

Redstone Signals

Even without a GUI, decorated pots work just like all the other storage blocks in Minecraft. You can use droppers, hoppers, and dispensers to move items through the pots. Moreover, these pots also send Redstone signals based on their storage capacity. For example, a decorated pot with only a few items will send a weak signal. But, a completely filled pot can send a strong redstone signal.
