Breeze in Minecraft 1.21 (2023)

Note: Our guide covers planned mechanics and mob for the Minecraft 1.21 update. All features, names, and designs are subject to change in the final release.

Update: Changes to Breeze collision mechanics as per version 1.20.3 Pre-Release 2.

Breeze: Playful Hostile Mob

Breeze is a new hostile mob coming to Minecraft with the 1.21 update. In appearance, it looks similar to a Blaze but instead of fire, it uses wind-based attacks. Breezes are grey in color and always have a small hurricane surrounding them.

All Breeze float constantly which makes them immune to fall damage and harder to fight in open areas. Additionally, their combat abilities are limited to ranged attacks. So, you must dodge a lot of their attacks and get really close to Breezes if you want to defeat them.

Abilities of Breeze

Breezes rely upon the following set of attacks to take down players:

  • Wind Charge: A powerful projectile that deals strong knockback and some damage to its target.
  • Wind Burst: If the original charge of wind misses the player and hits the block, it becomes a wind burst. Then, it only deals knockback to the player without causing any damage.
  • Redstone Components: Breeze's wind attacks can activate various Redstone components by interacting with them. This ability allows it to use buttons, levers, and trapdoors to trap players.

Where to Find the Breeze in Minecraft

Breezes only spawn in the monster rooms of the Trial Chambers in Minecraft. These chambers are unique underground structures that generate a bunch of challenges for the players. But, unlike other hostile mobs, a Breeze doesn't spawn on its own. Instead, you have to manually make them spawn with your presence.

How to Spawn the Breeze

Follow these simple steps to spawn a Breeze in Minecraft 1.21:

1. First, find a room in the Trail Chamber that has a trial spawner block in it. It is a black grated block with skulls on all sides and glowing corners.

2. Since there are a variety of trial spawner blocks, you need to find the one that spawns Breeze. The best way to do so is by looking for spawners surrounded by polished tuff and copper blocks.

3. Once you find the right spawner, get within a 16-block radius of the block to trigger spawning. Then, within 10 seconds or less, a Breeze will spawn.

Does Breeze Attack Other Mobs

Similar to the undead mobs in Minecraft, the Breeze is hostile towards players as well as Iron Golems. So, if you plan on using golems to defeat it, Breeze isn't going down without a fight. But, on the other hand, the Breeze is quite friendly to some other mobs. These include:

  • Skeletons
  • Strays
  • Zombies
  • Husks
  • Spiders
  • Cave Spiders
  • Slimes

None of these mobs nor Breeze retaliate even if they accidentally attack one another. Thanks to this mutual understanding, fighting Breeze becomes quite difficult around these hostile mobs. So, make sure to invite some friends if you want to defeat Breeze in Minecraft.

How to Defeat the Breeze in Minecraft

Breezes are playful hostile mobs whose main purpose is to help you improve your combat skills. Moreover, their abilities focus mainly on dealing knockback instead of damage to the player. So, with little preparation, you can easily take down any Breeze in Minecraft. Here's how:

  • Sword: Breeze can only harm its opponents from a distance and doesn't have any melee attacks. You can use this limitation to your advantage by using a diamond sword in Minecraft to take it down.
  • Iron Golem: You can make an Iron Golem in Minecraft and let it handle the Breeze on its own. It is one of the very few mobs in the game that doesn't get knockback from normal attacks.
  • Potion of Healing: Fighting with a Breeze involves quick movement which leaves very little time to heal. That's why it's important to keep a Potion of Healing to instantly restore your health.
  • Lever: As mentioned earlier, Breeze can interact with Redstone components and use them to trap you. So, you must keep a lever or a button handy to reactivate and get out of such traps.
  • Cobweb: You can use cobwebs to slow down your movement and reduce the knockback. But, doing so will also make it harder to move and attack the Breeze.

What are the Weaknesses of Breeze

While Breeze might look fierce and unique, it is fairly easy to defeat. All you need to do is use this weakness and take it down before you get hit:

  • Lava and Explosives: The Breeze has a small health bar. So, you can place lava, use fire, or activate TNT to kill it in no time. Explosions are also great for dealing with swarms of other hostile mobs that can spawn if you are playing with a group of friends.
  • Water and Sand: Like most mobs in Minecraft, Breezes are prone to drowning and suffocation. If you somehow trap them underwater or inside sand, they will die within seconds.
  • Cobweb: Because of its dynamic nature, Breeze loves to fly around the entire chamber. This makes it hard to hit even with the help of a crossbow. Luckily, you can use a cobweb to counter the flight and trap the Breeze.

Don't Use Projectiles

Breezes have a little-known ability to deflect all the projectiles thrown at them. It means if you fire an arrow or throw a trident on a Breeze, it will send it flying in a random direction. There's even a chance your projectile might hit and damage other players. So, it's best to stick with melee weapons like axes.

What Blocks Can the Breeze Influence

What makes it extremely hard to deal with the Breeze is its ability to interact with Redstone components. It can use its wind attack to change the state of the following blocks:

  • Doors (copper and wooden)
  • Trapdoors (copper and wooden)
  • Fence Gates
  • Bells
  • Lit Candles
  • Levers
  • Buttons
  • Decorated Pots
  • Chorus Flower
  • Pointed Dripstone

But, if any of these blocks is getting a Redstone signal for its position, the attack has no effect. For example, if you open a copper door by placing a Redstone block next to it, the Breeze cannot change its state.

What Does Breeze Drop

If a player or a tamed wolf kills the Breeze, it ends up dropping 1-2 breeze rods and 5 experience points. You can use these exclusive rods to craft Wind Charge and even unlock the new weapon Mace.

How to Spawn, Avoid, and Defeat Breeze in Minecraft

With that, you are now ready to meet and defeat the Breeze in Minecraft 1.21 update. But, it isn't the only new mob you need to keep an eye out for. After winning the Mob Vote, Armadillos are also coming to the game. With them, you will get the ability to craft armor for your tamed wolves.
