Trial Chambers in Minecraft (2023)

Note: Our guide is based on the information from the Minecraft Snapshot 23W45A. All mechanics, names, and designs are subject to change in the final release.

What are Trial Chambers in Minecraft 1.21

Trial Chambers are massive hostile structures from the Minecraft 1.21 update. They are made up of copper blocks and feature a variety of unique rooms. You can find reliable loot in some rooms and challenging waves of monsters in others.

But, what truly sets these chambers apart is their procedural generation. Every Trial Chamber within a world is somewhat different from the chambers within the same world. Imagine them as Woodland Mansions featuring unique rooms on your every encounter.

Where Do Trial Chambers Spawn

Trial Chambers spawn underground in the overworld dimension of Minecraft. While there is no official information on their spawn location or biome, we can make an educated guess. Dungeons usually generate around the world height of Y=-1, and Ancient Cities spawn close to Y=-51. So, it's possible that the Trial Chambers might appear right in between these structures.

Trial Spawner

The most interesting feature of every Trial Chamber in Minecraft is the Trial Spanwer block. It generates randomly in some of the rooms of this structure. When you approach a Trial Spawner, a group of hostile mobs spawns and begins to attack you. The number of mobs increases when there are multiple players nearby.

Then, it's up to you and your friends to defeat these monsters or face the consequences. Once you kill all the mobs, Trial Spawner goes into cool down and ends up dropping some loot. So, whether you want to practice team combat or farm some loot, this block is all you need.

What Mobs Can Spawn in Trial Chambers

Thanks to the light from Copper Bulbs, regular hostile mobs usually don't spawn inside Trial Chambers. You only need to worry about the mobs that the Trial Spawner summons when you get close to these. These mobs can be broadly classified into three types;

Melee:

  • Zombie
  • Husk
  • Slime

Small Melee:

  • Spider
  • Cave Spider
  • Baby Zombie
  • Silverfish

Ranged:

  • Skeleton
  • Stray
  • Skeleton with Poison-Tipped Arrows

Other than these, you can also find Breeze inside the Trial Chamber. It is a fierce and playful hostile mob that can activate various Redstone components to trap you.

What is Breeze in Minecraft 1.21

Breezes are a brand new hostile mob that only spawns in Trial Chambers of Minecraft 1.21 update. It isn't particularly one of the most dangerous mobs in the game. Instead, you can treat Breezes as playful hostile mobs to practice your combat and movement skills.

They use wind attacks to harm their enemies. When a Breeze's wind attack directly hits a player, it causes damage and delivers a significant knockback. But, if the Breeze's attack misses and hits a block instead, it only deals a knockback using wind.

First Mob to Interact with Redstone Components

What makes Breezes truly special is their ability to interact with components inside Trial Chambers. As per the latest demo, they are the only mob in the game that can open trapdoors, use buttons, and pull levers. We expect these abilities to expand to other Redstone components as well.

But, to some players, the mechanic can also serve as a reminder to Copper Golem. They were ready to become the first mob with the capacity to interact with buttons. However, they lost the Mob Vote 2021 and we ended up getting Allay in Minecraft.

Trial Chamber Blocks

There is no doubt that this new structure is perfect for adventures and combatants. But, builders can also find a bunch of new blocks within Trial Chambers in Minecraft 1.21. The list includes:

  • Copper Door
  • Polished Tuff
  • Copper Trapdoor
  • Polished Tuff Wall
  • Copper Grate
  • Tuff Bricks
  • Chiseled Block of Copper
  • Chiseled Tuff Bricks
  • Tuff Brick Stairs
  • Copper Bulb

Other than the new blocks, you can also discover a few existing items and blocks here. These include:

  • Decorated Pots (potentially, with some loot)
  • Candles
  • Dispensers
  • Blocks of Copper
  • Chains

What are Copper Bulbs in Minecraft

Copper bulbs are a new light block that only spawns as part of the Trial Chambers in Minecraft 1.21. They emit light at different levels, based on the level of their oxidation. So, you can oxide a copper bulb by placing it out in the open and dimming its lighting level. Once you find a light level that matches your desired tastes, use a honeycomb to lock it.

But, if you want to make it brighter again, you can use an axe to get rid of the oxidation. Naturally, these bulbs spawn oxidized, making it harder to see inside a Trial Chamber. So, don't forget to carry an axe during your adventure.

Rooms and Sections of Trial Chambers

As all Trial Chambers are procedurally generated, you can expect to find a new design at every encounter. But, parts of the structure remain the same in every generation. Let's go over some of them to help you prepare for your adventure.

Corridor

As you enter a Trial Chamber in Minecraft, you will find yourself in a corridor. It has loot chests, decorated pots, and traps on both sides. The corridor is often at the center of the chamber and you can follow different hallways to reach the rooms.

Bridge Chamber

It is one of the smallest rooms in the chamber and it generates multiple wide bridges. You can find small melee trial spawners alongside two chests in them. While the mobs are easy to defeat, this room's limiting design can make it challenging to dodge their attacks.

Fountain Rooms

As their name reveals, these rooms have a fountain-like structure in their center. But, it only starts releasing water when the dispenser on its top gets activated. That's the duty of various ranged hostile mobs, including Breeze, that can spawn in this room.

Hidden Room

Often at the bottom of the Trial Chambers, you can find a small room with nothing but one chest. There are no traps, mobs, or even complex terrain guiding the same. All you need to do is find your way to this room to reap its rewards.

Breeze Chamber

Breeze can spawn in a variety of rooms with the Trial Chamber. But, they are hardest to defeat in tall rooms made only for them. There, the Breeze spawner sits, out of your reach, on top of a tall structure in the middle of the room.

If the Breeze climbs on it or flies too high, it can get really hard to land a hit. Moreover, the room also has a bunch of trapdoors, dispensers, and other traps that the Breeze can activate and use against you.

Tree Room

As crazy as it might sound, you can also find one oak tree inside the Trail Chamber in Minecraft. It generates in a small room next to a block of water. There are no spawners in that room, but you can find three chests with very basic loot. You can use this place to regroup and plan your next move.

Bed Rooms

If you and your team want to rest after a fight, the Trial Chamber also spawns a small bunker. It only contains one loot chest and four beds. You can use the chest to get some reliable tools and food. Meanwhile, the beds will help you pass some time.

What is a Trial Vault

Trial Vault is a single-use storage block that spawns inside the Trial Chambers. You can open this block using a Trial Key that the Trial Spawners drop. As soon as you do the vault will become ineffective.

But, if you are playing on a Minecraft SMP server, other players can still open this block using their key. This not only prevents stealing but also makes it easier to share loot with your crew.

Command to Place Trial Chamber in Minecraft

If you are unable to find this unique structure, it's time to bring it to your feet. After enabling cheats, use the following command in your chat section to spawn a Trial Chamber:

/place structure trial_chamber

Unlike other structures, the Trial Chamber will not generate on the surface. Instead, you have to dig down and search for it around the deepslate layers.
