Automatic Farms with Crafter in Minecraft 1.21 (2023)

Note: Crafter is still an experimental feature in the world of Minecraft. So, all the mechanics in our guide are subject to change in the final release of the next update.

What is a Crafter in Minecraft?

Crafter is a new utility block coming to the game with Minecraft 1.21 update. It allows you to automatically craft any item in the game by only sending a Redstone signal. This mechanic works for all crafting recipes in the game, irrespective of their size or complexity.

To use a Crafter, first, arrange all the ingredients in the crafting grid to lock the crafting recipe. Then, find a way to funnel the ingredients and a way to power the Crafter. Once your setup is complete, it's time to sit back and reap the rewards.

1. Kelp Farm for Unlimited Fuel

If you are a Minecraft veteran, you might know that dried kelp blocks are one of the most efficient fuels in the game. All you need to get them is a kelp farm which is fairly easy to set up. Plus, Kelp grows rapidly, reaching the height of 25 blocks in just a day or two.

The only problem with using a kelp farm as a fuel is that you have to craft kelp blocks manually. But, not anymore. Thanks to the Crafter, you can automatically get all the kelp blocks. Plus, if you attach the output to a furnace, you will end up with an unlimited supply of fuel.

2. Storage Manager

Irrespective of how many chests you set up, a lot of farms in Minecraft end up running out of storage. Fortunately, you can solve this issue by using a Crafter to turn many items into solid blocks. This mechanic works best with the following items:

In terms of storage, converting items into blocks can save you dozens of chests. For example, a chest filled with stacks of iron ingots can only hold 1728 items. But, if you turn them into Blocks of Iron, the same chest can hold 15,552 ingots. This simple change gives you nine times the usual storage capacity.

3. Better Food via Automatic Farms with Crafter in Minecraft

From carrots to pumpkins, you can farm a variety of food in Minecraft. But, most of the time, the food is only good for restoring part of your hunger in its original form. You have to transform pumpkins into pumpkin pie, carrots into golden carrots, and so on, for any reliable benefit.

Now, with the Crafter, you can effortlessly upgrade your food. To get the best results, you have to combine two or more food farms. The entire system might take you a while to set up, but you will never have to worry about your hunger anymore.

4. Gold Piglin Trading Farm

There are a variety of ways to get gold in Minecraft. But, if you want to farm gold, killing Zombified Piglins is the only reliable option. Each of these mobs drops 0-1 gold nuggets upon dying. You can attach a Crafter with this mob farm to collect and craft nuggets into gold ingots.

Then, to enhance your gold farming, consider trapping some Piglins on the output side of the Crafter. These mobs can collect the ingots and give you a bunch of great items. You can use our guide on Piglin trades in Minecraft to explore all the rewards this farm can reap.

5. Blue Ice Farms with Crafter in Minecraft

Blue ice is one of the most reliable blocks in Minecraft when it comes to traveling. You can create a highway of blue ice blocks and use a boat on it to move at a speed of up to 72.73 m/s. But, as you might expect, creating such a massive boating path needs a lot of blue ice blocks. That's where the Crafter comes into the picture.

To get unlimited ice blocks, you can use an infinite water source in cold biomes. Then, just use a couple of Crafters to convert the ice blocks first into packed ice and then into blue ice. The only thing that this amazing block cannot do is place the blocks for your build.

6. Only Reliable Wood Farm

From TNT duping to Minecraft mods, there are a variety of tree farms that can get you automatic wood in the game. But, all of them suffer from lag and require players to plant saplings. Now, it's time to change the way we approach wood farming with the help of bamboo and the versatile Crafter.

You create a bamboo farm in Minecraft by using a set of observers with pistons. The observers trigger the pistons, which break sections of bamboo once they grow to a certain height. Unlike tree farms, this process doesn't destroy the base of the plant. Simultaneously, a Crafter can convert all the harvested bamboo into bamboo wood. This automatic farm with Crafter in Minecraft is the only way to get unlimited wood while staying AFK.

7. Ultimate Bonemeal and Crop System

Last, but not least, we have an automatic farm with crafter in Minecraft that can upgrade your farmers. The process starts with creating a skeleton farm to gather as many bones as possible, with arrows as a bonus. Then, you need to add a Crafter to the mix to turn the bones into bonemeal.

Finally, to use all the bonemeal, you need a farmer villager and a large farming area. The farmer can efficiently collect and use the bonemeal to grow crops in Minecraft at a faster rate. This setup takes plant-based farms to a whole new level.

Best Farm Ideas to Use Crafter in Minecraft

Just like that, you are now ready to use the Crafter to make your Minecraft life fully automatic. But, don't let this revolutionary block outshine other features of the next update. It also adds a new structure, Trial Chamber to the game which spawns Breeze, a wind-based hostile mob. Exploring and looting this structure is as challenging as enabling Crafter farms.
