Thanks to their good aim, skeletons are one of the most annoying mobs to deal with in Minecraft. But, what if their arrows were deadlier? That’s exactly what Bogged, a new mob is bridging to the game. So, join us, and let’s uncover what Bogged in Minecraft 1.21 is all about.
Bogged in Minecraft 1.21 (2024)
Note: Bogged is an experimental mob from an upcoming update. Its texture, design, and mechanics are subject to change before Minecraft 1.21 comes out.
What is a Bogged Skeleton in Minecraft
Bogged is a new hostile undead mob that is making it into the game with Minecraft 1.21 update. In terms of appearance, the Bogged have a greenish-gray skeletal body that is covered with mud and moss. You surely won't want to encounter them in the dark.
While they are a variant of the existing skeleton mobs, Bogged are far more deadly. Instead of regular arrows, they shoot poison-tipped arrows at you that slowly deplete your health to half a heart. Then, any other mob or even fall damage can kill you with the smallest hit.
Differences Between Bogged and Skeleton
While Bogged belongs to the family of undead skeleton mobs, they are quite distinct from their peers. Let's see how:
- Skeleton: White in color, this mob spawns in the Nether dimension and most biomes of the overworld. It shoots regular arrows at its opponents.
- Stray: Covered in torn pieces of green leather, this mob spawns in the snowy biomes of Minecraft. Instead of regular arrows, it shoots tipped arrows of Slowness that can make you trapped in powered snow.
- Bogged: Deadliest of the three, this mob spawns in swampy-based biomes and shoots poison-tipped arrows.
Where Does Bogged Spawn
Similar to other undead mobs in Minecraft, this new mob spawns in an in-game structure and a couple of biomes. Let's figure out how to find Bogged in Minecraft.
Dark Swamp Areas
Bogged spawn at a light level of 0, in these overworld Minecraft biomes:
- Mangrove Swamp
- Swamp
You can find them right next to the frogs while exploring these biomes at night. Moreover, thanks to the dense forest, the mangrove swamps can also spawn them during the day.
Trial Chamber
If you are unable to find the swamp biomes, there is no need to worry. All variants of skeletons including the Bogged spawn inside the Trial Chamber structure. You just need to find rooms with Trial Spawners surrounded by chiseled copper blocks to reach them.
We already have a guide on how to find Trial Chamber in Minecraft, to speed up the process. But, keep in mind that Bogged mobs often spawn alongside a raw of other mobs including the Breeze. This makes them poisonous arrows much deadlier unless you know how to defeat them.
Weaknesses of Bogged
Whether it's the fierce Warden or the muddy Bogged, every hostile mob in Minecraft has some weakness. Here's how to use them in your favor:
- Sunlight: Being an undead mob, sunlight is a natural enemy of Bogged. They get lit on fire and start taking damage as soon as the sun comes up.
- Water: Even though the Bogged lives in a swampy area, it isn't immune from drowning. In the right situation, you can trap it underwater using a bucket in Minecraft.
- Speed: Compared to a regular skeleton, the Bogged are a bit slow at firing arrows and reloading bows. This makes them slightly easier to dodge.
- Powdered Snow: While both Stray and Skeleton can survive in powered snow, the Bogged starts freezing and takes damage.
What Does Bogged Drop
When a player or a tamed wolf kills a Bogged in Minecraft, they drop 5 XP points alongside loot. Their mob loot always includes 0-2 bones or 0-2 arrows and has a slightly lower chance of dropping an Arrow of Poison.
Thanks to this drop, you can easily make a farm for poison-tipped arrows by making a mob-XP tower inside the swamp biomes. Plus, all the slimes that commonly appear in the areas are a bonus.
Can You Convert the Skeleton into a Bogged
As you might already know, when a regular skeleton gets trapped inside powered snow, it slowly freezes and becomes a Stray. At the moment, there is no such mechanic for Bogged in Minecraft. But, that might change as more snapshots and betas release in the coming weeks.
A potential way to turn skeletons into Bogged could be to suffocate them within mud blocks. Alternatively, the developers might use the poison effects to turn skeletons into Bogged mobs. So, make sure to bookmark this guide to stay updated whenever this feature drops.
