11 Features We Want in Minecraft 1.21 Update (2023)

With the Tales & Trails update at your doorsteps and Minecraft 1.20 servers at their peak, it's a great time to be in the game. But, with the launch of every new update comes the anticipation of the next big thing. This time isn't different. From biomes to mobs, the community is imagining all kinds of unique features for the future of Minecraft. So, here we are with some of the best and most likely features you might see in the Minecraft 1.21 update. Let's get started!

Expectations Minecraft 1.21 Update (2023)

Our list goes over a variety of features and expectations from the next big Minecraft update. But none of these concepts have been confirmed yet.

1. Glowing Armor Trim

Since the trims are a brand new feature, it still has a large scope for changes and improvement. And one of the best ways to upgrade it, as per a community member (here), is by making the trimmed armor glow.

You can already make signs and hanging signs glow with the help of glow ink sacs. Expanding this functionality to armor trims will fit perfectly with the existing concepts of the game. Moreover, on the best Minecraft survival servers, this will make nights much more fun to navigate.

2. Savanna Revamp in Minecraft 1.21 Update

In Minecraft Live 2018 and 2019, the team behind Minecraft revealed gave us the option to request a complete revamp of multiple biomes. The winning biomes, Mountains, and Taiga got upgrades in the following updates.

But the interesting part is that Swamp, one of the losing biomes also received an upgrade in Minecraft 1.19 update. Plus, the Desert got a bunch of unique add-ons in the Minecraft 1.20 update. So, it is only a matter of time before Savanna and probably, even Badlands receive a complete overhaul.

3. Vertical Redstone

Redstone, ever since its existence, has been down to earth, quite literally. But in a game where creativity in creation is celebrated, free Redstone placement feels like a default feature that should already be here.

There are a bunch of amazing Minecraft modpacks out there that do the same. However, none of them can be as reliable as official support for vertical or walled Redstone features. The same will open up a ton of building mechanics for farms as well as machines. But do the developers think the same? We will have to wait and see.

4. Swamp and Jungle Villages

It is a well-known fact at this point that Minecraft already has fully developed models of swamp and jungle villagers in the game. But it's been years since they made it to the game and we still don't have any news about their dedicated villagers.

However, with the addition of bamboo wood and mangrove swamps to the game, things look quite hopeful. The last two updates have created the framework for these villages and Minecraft 1.21 needs to develop upon the same. Though, if you don't want to wait that long, you can jump onto our list of best Minecraft village seeds and meet these missing mobs in glitched spots.

5. Bundles in Minecraft 1.21 Update

While you can already access bundles in Minecraft, they are nowhere close to their final version, especially on the Bedrock edition. This is partly because bundles rely upon a click-and-drag management method that isn't possible on touch and console devices.

Though, thanks to all the ongoing testing and development, it is highly likely that the situation might change. Otherwise, bundles will join the list of imparity features that are exclusive to the Java edition of Minecraft.

6. Emerald Gear

Emeralds, while serving as the unofficial currency in Minecraft, have often been seen as mistreated as minerals with limited functionality. In comparison to gold, which serves as armor, tools, and also currency, the situation appears unfair.

Luckily, a glimmer of hope has emerged with the introduction of smithing templates, which allow players to use emeralds to decorate their armor. This addition opens up possibilities for emeralds to play an even more prominent role in Minecraft 1.21, though the chances of this happening are slim.

7. Unused Mobs in Minecraft 1.21 Update

Other than the swamp and jungle villagers, Minecraft also has the following 5 unused mobs in the game:

  • Killer Bunny
  • Giant
  • Illusioner
  • Zombie Horse
  • Elder Guardian Ghost

Except for the Giant, all of these missing mobs have fully developed AI and models. The only missing thing is lore and a spawning mechanic. If Mojang plans on increasing the pool of casual hostile mobs in the game, each of these will be a great fit. Otherwise, you can always meet them on some of the best modded and cracked Minecraft servers or with commands.

8. Birch Update

During the Minecraft Live of 2021, the developers showed off amazing concept art (mentioned above) of the birch forest biome. The community took it as a direct hint towards a possible birch update but unfortunately, that turned out to be not true.

But, looking at the history of Minecraft, the game is known for listening to its users and implementing demanded concepts in the game. The cherry grove biome is a result of the same. So, it won't be surprising if we get a branch overhaul with Minecraft 1.21 update. There is already a concept art that people love, only an implementation is pending.

9. More Villager Jobs in Minecraft 1.21 Update

It has been nearly a decade since villagers in Minecraft were introduced to proper jobs, and their career options have remained unchanged ever since. However, exciting changes might be on the horizon with the release of Minecraft 1.21, as there are hints suggesting new possibilities.

Within the game files of the new Minecraft Legends game, there are several unused villagers, such as Alchemists, Beastmasters, Beekeepers, Glassblowers, Ice Sculptors, Interpreters, Musicians, and Weavers. None of these villagers exist in the main game, but their presence opens up a ton of possibilities for mob professions in the next big update.

10. Amplified Worlds in Minecraft Bedrock

The Amplified Worlds of Minecraft allow you to experience the game in its most intense form. You get extremely tall mountains, deep ravines, and a terrain like never before. But, this feature is limited to the Java edition since it requires a lot of system resources.

So, it's about time that Minecraft 1.21 gives the Bedrock players a taste of the same. Though, just like RTX shaders, these worlds might not only be available to players on powerful systems.

11. Purpose of Fletching Table

Last, but not least, we have the Fletching Table. It is one of the oldest job-site blocks in the game that turns villagers into Fletchers, who give some amazing loot. However, even with a rich history, this block doesn't have any functionality, unlike all other job-site blocks.

Many players suspect that this is because of the incomplete combat update of Minecraft which was going to expand the features of arrows. The textures on the block also support the same idea. So, whenever the Fletching Table receives functionality it will be around bows, arrows, and tipped arrows. When that happens is a question only Minecraft 1.21 update can answer.
