Also known as dog armor, the Wolf Armor is a wearable item from the Minecraft 1.21 update. As its name suggests, this armor will give additional protection to your favorite canine friends. In terms of protection, it is as strong as a diamond horse armor.
So, the wolf armor will give your wolves 11 points worth of armor protection. It is slightly more than the overall protection that players get from wearing a Netherite or diamond chestplate. Though, unlike your armor, the wolf armor doesn’t have any durability and functions forever.
Limitations of Wolf Armor
Similar to a player's armor, the wolf armor in Minecraft has some basic restrictions and it is ineffective against the following damages:
- Fall damage
- Warden's sonic attack
- Suffocation, freezing, or drowning
- Magic effects like Evoker's fangs or potions in Minecraft
- Falling into the void
Are There Any Types of Wolf Armor
Unlike horse armor, wolf armor doesn’t have any types or variants in Minecraft. But, since it provides as much protection as the strongest horse armor, there is no need to worry.
How to Make a Wolf Armor in Minecraft
To make a wolf armor in Minecraft, you first need to collect 6 armadillo scutes. Here’s how:
1. First, craft a brush in Minecraft using a copper ingot, a stick, and a feather. While armadillos drop scutes on their own, using a brush is the easiest way. 
2. Then, search for the savanna biome in your world as armadillos exclusively spawn in that area. You can also use our best Minecraft savanna seeds to skip the search.
3. Once you enter the savanna biome, search for armadillos. You can find them wandering around the open grounds in groups of 1-3 mobs.
4. After finding an armadillo, slowly approach it while holding your sneak key. Make sure you don’t sprit or the armadillo will curl up into a ball. Alternatively, you can also use spider eyes to lure the armadillo and win its trust.
5. Finally, use the brush on the armadillo to make it drop a scute. Since you need 6 scutes, it’s best to search for these mobs in a large savanna area.
Crafting Recipe of Wolf Armor
Once you have all the ingredients, it’s time to make a wolf armor in Minecraft. Let’s uncover its crafting recipe:
1. To begin, open your crafting table or crafter by right-clicking on it. 
2. Then, place a scute in the first slot of the top row of the crafting grid.
3. Next, fill the second layer of the grid with 3 scutes.
4. To finish the crafting recipe, place one scute in each side slot of the bottommost row. With that, your wolf armor is ready for action!
How to Use Wolf Armor on a Wolf in Minecraft
Using the wolf armor is quite easy. All you have to do is tame a wolf in Minecraft and right-click on it to equip the armor. But, keep in mind that this mechanic only works on tamed wolves. Plus, unlike regular armor, you cannot use a dispenser to place the wolf armor. 
Though, things can get tricky when it comes to taking the armor off. When you right-click on the wolf with empty hands, it just sits down. That’s why you need to use shears on your wolf to take its armor off. Similar to placement, you cannot use a dispenser for this task either.
When is Wolf Armor Coming to Minecraft
As mentioned earlier, the wolf armor is coming to the game with the new Minecraft 1.21 update. Keeping the release timeline of previous updates in mind, it's expected to be released in June 2024.
