How to Make Enchantment Table in Minecraft (2023 - Easy Guide)

Whether you are a Minecraft veteran or a brand-new player of the game, you will only go so far without reliable tools. While you can rely upon mobs like the Iron Golem to have your back, even they are only useful in very limited aspects. In challenging situations and highly competitive Minecraft 1.20 servers, it's up to you and your gear to ensure your survival. And when it comes to gear, nothing compares to having the best enchantments in Minecraft, which can be unlocked through the Enchantment Table. Let's dive in and learn how to make Enchantment Table in Minecraft and push your entire toolkit to the fullest.

How to Make Enchantment Table in Minecraft

Our guide goes over all the aspects of making, using, and upgrading an Enchantment Table in Minecraft. Make sure to follow it closely to avoid any errors during your adventures.

What is an Enchantment Table in Minecraft

The Enchantment Table is a functional block in Minecraft that allows you to add enchantments to your armor, tools, and weapons. It is the ultimate block for upgrading your gear in the game and pushing it to the fullest.

However, unlike other reliable functional blocks, the Enchantment Table can't spawn naturally within Minecraft. Instead, you have to craft it manually

Is It Enchanting Table or Enchantment Table

While it might feel confusing at first, both Enchantment Table and the Enchanting Table refer to the same item. The first term is this functional block's official name in the Bedrock edition, meanwhile, it's called Enchanting Table in the Java edition.

Though, the differences between them end with the names only. This block works in the same way within both editions of Minecraft. So, feel free to follow our guide irrespective of the platform, version, and variant of your game.

Items Required to Make an Enchantment Table

You need to collect the following items to craft an Enchantment Table in Minecraft:

  • 4 Obsidian Blocks
  • 1 Book
  • 2 Diamonds

Diamonds are vital for creating an Enchantment Table in Minecraft and you even need them to mine obsidian blocks. The diamond ore block spawns at the world height of Y=-64 and you can use our Minecraft 1.20 ore distribution guide to find them in no time.

How to Make a Book

To craft a book in Minecraft, you have to have a piece of leather with three pages on a crafting table. We already have a guide on how to get paper in Minecraft and you can kill horses or cows to easily obtain leather. Moreover, the recipe for books doesn't have a fixed arrangement so feel free to place the ingredients anywhere in the crafting grid.

Get Obsidian Blocks

The base of every Enchantment Table is the obsidian blocks that also serve as the border of the Nether portal in Minecraft. To get these blocks, you have to combine water source blocks with lava using a bucket or find them merging naturally.

Once you find the obsidian blocks, you need a diamond pickaxe to mine and pick them up. Alternatively, you can also find obsidian in the chests of villages, ruined portals, Nether fortresses, and Bastion Remnants.

Crafting Recipe of Enchantment Table

Follow these simple steps to create an Enchantment Table in Minecraft:

1. First, fill up the bottommost row of the crafting table by placing three obsidian blocks in it.

2. Then, put one obsidian block in the middle cell of the crafting grid and place one diamond on each of its sides.

3. Finally, place a book in the middle of the topmost row of the crafting grid. With that, your Enchantment Table is ready to use.

How to Use Enchanting Table in Minecraft

Now that you know how to make Enchantment Table in Minecraft, it's time to put it to work. Here's how:

1. To begin, search for lapis lazuli ore block and mine it to get a piece of lapis lazuli. It is the fuel of the Enchantment Table and mostly spawns at the world height of Y=0.

2. Next, place down the Enchantment Table and then right-click to open it.

3. Then, put a weapon, tool, or armor of your choice in the left side slot of the table. Each of them has a separate set of enchantments that you can unlock.

4. Next, place the lapis lazuli in the right-side slot, and then click on one of the shown enchantments to apply it to your item.

How to Craft Bookshelves

When you first use an Enchantment Table with any item in Minecraft, it only allows you to add the most basic level enchantments on it. However, you can level up the table by placing multiple bookshelves around it. To craft one, you just need to combine three books with four wooden planks.

As per Minecraft's lore, the table absorbs the knowledge from the bookshelves and improves itself. You can even see the letters from the books flying into the table visually. But, keep in mind that this process only works with regular bookshelves and not the new Chiseled Bookshelves in Minecraft.

Make and Use Enchantment Table in Minecraft

With that, you have the ability to add a bunch of upgrades to your favorite equipment, and the best Minecraft pickaxe enchantments are the perfect spot to get started. However, keep in mind that the table cannot give you access to all the enchantments in the game. Some of them are limited to enchanted books and you have to create an anvil in Minecraft to apply them. But, if that doesn't seem powerful enough, you can also upgrade our gear to Netherite for additional support. Having said that, which enchantments are you planning to get with your first Enchantment Table in Minecraft? Drop your picks on our Discord server.
