Now, he is back with a project that is going to change the way we play Minecraft survival servers all across the globe. The Dream United SMP server and mod is bringing real-time vocal translations to the game and it's truly game-changing. What is Dream's United SMP Mod?
As per his official announcement, Dream is working on a new Minecraft mod that will bring real-time translation to the game. With it, you can see a translation of everything another player is saying right above their head. This allows you to talk to and understand free people from all across the world.
While there are a few existing translation mods already out there, none of them offer vocal translations like Dream's mod. Furthermore, there is almost no delay in the translation which allows you to have real-time conversations with someone without knowing their language.
How Does the Language Translation Work
An API is an application programming interface that creates a bridge between you and third-party software to do any tasks. For example, you can use Google or Microsoft's API to get their translation or text-to-speech abilities into Minecraft.
Dream's United Minecraft translator mod uses voice-to-text APIs to turn everything you are saying to text. Then, it translates the text and shows it in the chatbox and above the speaker's head. This mod translates speech to text in real-time, with almost no delay. Though, due to context, some sentences do end up changing when the speaker finishes speaking.
United SMP Server
In the spirit of global unity that this mod will bring to Minecraft, Dream is launching a new SMP server. This server will be exclusive to 60 creators speaking 6 unique languages from all across the world. Only 10 of these speakers will be English-speaking. We are not sure which creators will be a part of this server, but it will be a game-changing experience for the community.
Furthermore, this unique server will also have a distinct control system to give equal representation to all languages. In it, there will have a mock EU-style committee that will make all the decisions as a group instead of the server having a single owner. This is a unique system that has not been seen in other Minecraft SMP servers, and this experiment might be a turning point for the community.
What Languages Does United SMP Support
At launch, Dream's United SMP server and the mod will officially support the following languages:
- English
- Spanish
- Portuguese
- French
- German
- Korean
As per Ethnologue, a database of global languages, these languages have roughly 2 billion speakers worldwide. All of them will be able to interact with foreign speakers without learning a new language. Though, support for such a diverse section of language might even make it easy for you to learn a new language while playing Minecraft.
Other Languages
Although the United SMP is currently designed to support only six languages at launch, its potential for expansion is infinite. In Dream's official video, we observed that Hindi and Japanese, two popular languages, were featured despite not being on the official list. However, there is no confirmation regarding their eventual support.
But as Dream plans to release the mod as an open-source project, numerous additional languages may be added shortly. Though, this is only possible after the official release of the Minecraft translator mod.
Release Date of United SMP Mod
As per the description of the official video, this creator-only United SMP server is going to release later this month (April 2023). However, there is no word about the public release of the translator mod yet. With such a large-scale and inclusive project, there is no scope for any bugs.
Though, when it eventually launches, Dream has promised a mostly bug-free and inclusive experience. Moreover, this translator mod will be available as an open-source project so other new Minecraft servers might be able to implement it as well.
Will Minecraft Translator Mod be Free?
Just like all the other popular Minecraft modpacks, Dream's translator mod will be completely free for everyone. However, since the mod relies on a bunch of 3rd party APIs, you might have to handle some manual setup on your end. This additional setup may or may not have an extra cost.
